Shaykh Muhammad Al-Yaqoubi
Scholar of hadith, law and spirituality · Damascus
Heir to an unbroken chain of knowledge reaching back to the Prophet ﷺ, he devotes his life to teaching and transmitting the Islamic tradition throughout the world.
Life & path
Born into an illustrious family of Damascene scholars whose lineage reaches back to the Prophet ﷺ, Shaykh Muhammad Al-Yaqoubi grew up at the heart of a house of learning. He received knowledge in the traditional way, from master to student, from his father Shaykh Ibrahim Al-Yaqoubi and the great scholars of the Umayyad Mosque.
Trained from an early age in the sacred sciences — Qur'anic sciences, hadith, law, theology and spirituality — he obtained the licences (ijāza) of transmission from a great many masters of Syria and beyond, taking his place in a living chain of transmitters.
Recognised as one of the great voices of contemporary traditional Sunni Islam, he teaches hadith, Mālikī law and the spiritual path to students worldwide. His clear and measured speech seeks to present an Islam faithful to its sources and bearing mercy.
An author, lecturer and teacher, he has granted chains of transmission to thousands of students and works tirelessly to make this knowledge accessible. It is in this spirit that he accompanies L'Héritage du Prophète ﷺ and its mission of transmission in French.
